When I turned 13, I was cast in my first musical Annie (of course). After performing in that show I knew that I wanted to move to New York City to one day be a Broadway actress. So my mom, aunt, and I got together one night and made vision boards. Making a vision board really inspired me to do more with my life and to continue going after that New York dream. Well five years later, I found myself moving into my college dorm in New York City. One year later I was accepted into my dream performing arts school and the following year accepted into an international acting program in Greece. Greece is where I discovered teaching yoga and well the rest is history! My mom, aunt, and I now carry on that tradition every year on New Year’s Day to set out our dreams and goals for the new year.
Every single year my vision board had a vision of New York and performing. Now my boards look a bit different, they have different cities and places to see because this world is so beautiful that I must see it all! I make a vision board anytime I feel a new change or opportunity coming into my life. I also make them if I’m feeling down about my dreams or unsure of where to go. Sometimes the board pieces itself together and I get a clearer vision once it’s all done.
The power of making a vision board is creating light within yourself and a belief so strong that no matter what YOUR DREAMS WILL COME TRUE. You are the light holder of your life, never forget it.
Let’s get started!
What is a vision board?
A vision board is a creative way to see and envision your goals and dreams.
How do I make one?
Have a goal or dream in mind and create!
What you need:
♦Paper or board material (cardboard, fancy paper, or even a recycled cereal box)
♦Glue (I recommend clear glitter glue to add pizzazz)
♦Magazines (lots of em!)
♦Markers (get creative)
♦Any decor you want (glitter, feathers, broken jewelry)
♦Candles, music, incense (optional)
♦Light the candles, turn on music, and burn the incense
♦Browse through magazines
♦Cut out pictures and words that inspire you
♦Collage your words and photos and move them around until they feel right to you
♦Glue everything on your board
♦Add the decor
♦Color/draw/write with markers
♦Let it dry for one hour
♦Hang it somewhere in your home where you will see it everyday (I hang mine above my mirror in my bedroom so every morning I see my dreams)
♦Pick a mantra to go with it (My current mantra: Ask. Believe. Haul Ass. Receive.)
You now have a beautiful masterpiece of a dream hanging on your wall and you recycled by reusing materials! It’s a win win for you and the planet! Now go out into the world and make those dreams come true!
