Traveling the world and teaching yoga is such a rewarding career. In fact, I know it’s rewarding because I’ve been living it the past six years.
However, before the rewards come through, there are four must haves that every traveling yoga teacher needs to get hired abroad!
We’re living in the time of COVID-19. In order to travel abroad every country requires travel insurance. Travel insurance covers medical and dental emergencies, flight delays, hotel/Airbnb cancellations and more! I use Travelex and recommend them as they have great customer service and have always covered what they promise.
An Organized and Impressive Resume
Everyone has a resume, but yours needs to be organized and impressive. When I say organized I mean color coded, bold title fonts and correct spelling and grammar. When I say impressive I don’t mean that you have to have a full resume or trained with a famous teacher. I mean design your resume in a way that makes your future employer not want to take their eyes off of your work!
Five Star Interview
You purchased your travel insurance. You applied with your resume for your dream job abroad and got an interview. Congrats!
Now you need to get five stars in your interview to book the audition!
Study the website and social media of the place you applied to teach at. Bonus points if you research the country the job is in!
As a yoga studio manager, I will be the first to tell you that the people who ask questions about my studio are making the right move because it shows that they did their research and want this position.
Tell Them Who You Are
Tell your future employer why you stand out and are the right person for this teaching job abroad. This can be anything that shows your dedication and unique abilities that no other candidate has.
Always follow-up within 48-hours with a thank you email. Additionally, if you don’t hear back within the time frame the interviewer gave you then follow-up again via email or call. Sometimes studios (or any business) get busy, so a second follow-up is completely appropriate.
Regardless of COVID-19 you will need to audition virtually as it’s a bit crazy to travel all the way to another country for an audition. A virtual audition can be live on Zoom or a simple recording of you teaching your students, friends or family. To learn more about yoga studio auditions, read my guide HERE.
Now that you have learned the four must haves that every traveling yoga teacher needs, you get to travel all over the world teaching yoga to new souls everyday, go on grand adventures, eat delicious food all while getting paid to do what you love!
