I have this dream of opening a yoga hostel. A place to house travelers, teach yoga in my studio, SUP yoga on the water, and most importantly house a refugee family to give them a better life. Then right next door will be an orphanage for refugee and immigrant children. I want this more than anything in the world because I believe in a world with no borders. A world full of light and love where WE can all live equally.
I’m someone who needs inspiration from my dreams, so on my 24th birthday I got a tattoo that reminds me what I am for.
It writes these lyrics:
If you knew what you were for
And how you became so informed?
Bodies of info performing such miracles
I am a miracle made up of particles
And in this existence I’ll stay persistent
And I’ll make a difference and I will have lived it.
My tattoo is inspired from one of my biggest inspirations, Nahko Bear. So when I heard he was playing in Chicago over the weekend I was all in!
These are my 4 Favorite Moments At The Nahko Concert
The Nahko Girls
Upon arriving to the concert, I met two beautiful soul friends. One a yoga teacher and the other a free spirit. Those two were SO special. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we gave thanks and we celebrated life while dancing together under the stars to Nahko’s music.
It was AMAZING!!! The girls and I were the only ones who got up and danced our hearts out. There is something about not giving a care in the world and dancing with pure love and joy for the moment.
Rocking out with Nahko Bear
Love Letters to God began playing. Nahko got off the stage and ran right up to the crowd. He grabbed my hand, looked me straight in the eye and with a smile we sang:
“Human souls so we carve em into story Totem poles
Because we’re always searching for a certain goal a pattern of physics, a role
Don’t believe all you’re told”
Earlier this year I moved back to New Orleans for a few months. I was so desperately looking for a sign that I made the right move. I thought I never found that sign. Until now. The night I moved back to NOLA I went to my first Nahko concert. When I was looking for that sign, Nahko walked into the crowd and sang those same lyrics. Then it happened again in Chicago this past weekend. THAT was the sign. I just needed to hear it. Not see it. The universe always sends us signs, sometimes we just have to listen.
Meeting Nahko Bear
All I wanted when meeting Nahko was to THANK him for his music. Especially his song Aloha as it’s a daily inspiration and reminder to go after my dreams.
So when we met, we hugged and he asked to sign my poster and I said sure, but can I show you my tattoo? I explained to him the significance of what his lyrics mean to me and how they inspire me every single day to open my yoga hostel. I thought he would just say thank you.
Instead, he looked at me and said “When you open your hostel, I’ll play it.”
My heart lit up! I can’t tell you what it meant to me when Nahko believed in me. It sparked this fire within that made me believe in myself and my dreams on a whole new level.
So why am I sharing all of this with you today?
Because imagine what would happen if we believed in ourselves MORE than those who inspire us do.
What if WE were the ones who inspired ourselves everyday to believe in our purpose, our existence and the belief that WE can impact the world?
As Nahko sings:
We Know What We Are For
So stand rooted in that. Be brave with your dreams. Show up for yourself and the world with them. You are so worthy of every dream you have and you are capable of impacting the world.
